In Memphis, the Grizzlies can rest easy knowing they're found their next franchise superstar. While Ja Morant still has a lot to prove, his emergence as a top-tier player in the NBA has been incredible to behold.
Even Warriors veteran Draymond Green, who is witnessing Morant's greatness for himself in these playoffs, couldn't help but concede how great he's been. On his podcast, he went so far so to mention him in the same breath as "Air Jordan."
"Some of the finishes that he had in that game, I saw some of the comparisons to Air Jordan. It was absolutely incredible. The 1 where I went vertical and he did whatever he did in the air and went underneath that was just 1. of the incredible finishes. It was absolutely insane. I'm going back looking at that like 'man.' You just gotta take your hat off to him, he makes some incredible plays."
Picked 2nd overall in 2019, Ja has been compared to basketball legends like Allen Iverson, Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, and even Stephen Curry.
"I love watching Ja play, more than I love coaching against him," Kerr told reporters after Game 2. "He's a brilliant player but he plays with freedom and joy and you can see how much he loves the game. He's fantastic, I think it's infectious with his teammates, with the crowd. Very similar dynamic to Steph. They're obviously very different players but that joy and freedom you see with Steph is there with Ja as well."
It is through Ja's play that the Grizzlies finished the season so high in the standings, and it is through Ja's play that they sit just 3 wins away from a Conference Finals appearance.
Through 57 games in the regular season, Morant averaged 27.4 points, 6.7 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game on 49% shooting.
His skills, athleticism, and natural leadership ability have vaulted Memphis to new heights in the West.
