Kemba Walker Explains He Wants To Have More Playing Time Alongside Luka Doncic

"Who doesn’t want to play with that kid?" Walker said while outlining his objective with Dallas.

Kemba Walker got real on his objective with the Dallas Mavericks after his heroics against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

His 32 points, coupled with 5 rebounds and 7 assists, took the side to striking distance but failed to seal the game in overtime. The Cavaliers won 100-99 despite Walker’s best efforts.

Signing Walker was one of the more interesting moves after the team released Facundo Campazzo. The move paid dividends as the 32-year-old made an impactful performance after a rather mellow debut against the Chicago Bulls earlier.

The guard was instrumental for the New York Knicks last year, averaging 11.6 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists, and with the Mavericks looking to ease the burden on Luka Doncic, it appears signing Walker was the perfect move.

Walker’s experience, playmaking acumen, and ability to score freely make him a threat at any point in the game, and that was on full display against the Cavaliers.

His real objective was made clear when he spoke to the media in the aftermath of the thrilling contest. According to Dallas News’ Callie Caplan:

Kemba Walker, asked about more potential time in rotation with Luka Doncic: “I would love it. No question. Who doesn’t want to play with that kid? He's special. But yeah, like I said, I really just do what I’m asked. That’s what I’m here for."

Earlier, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban revealed the reason behind signing the versatile veteran.

Mark Cuban to me on addition of Kemba Walker:

“We wanted to add some flexibility to our offense. Like last year at this point, we have great shot quality, particularly from the 3, but we have struggled to make enough of them. Kemba will give J-Kidd more offensive flexibility.”

While he does have his defensive limitations, the Mavericks will be pleased to have him on their side. Their major concern this season is the lack of points from three-point land, and they will hope Walker will do his bit till they rope in another sharpshooter. That said, Dallas still has some fine-tuning to do if they intend to make the postseason.
