Kiyan Anthony was asked to share his list of the five greatest shooters of all time on the latest episode of the Kiyan Anthony Show and he couldn’t help but be a bit biased. Anthony went with four of the best shooters we have ever seen and his father, Carmelo Anthony.
“Steph (Curry), Ray Allen, Reggie Miller, my pops, Klay (Thompson),” Anthony said.
While Carmelo has gone down as one of the greatest scorers of his generation, he wasn’t exactly a terrific shooter. The future Hall of Famer shot just 35.5% from beyond the arc in his career, which isn’t great.
Anthony managed to shoot over 40.0% from three in two of his 19 seasons in the NBA and certainly won’t make the top five for many. As for the other four picks made by Kiyan, they would make it in for most.
Stephen Curry is undoubtedly the greatest shooter in NBA history. Curry has shot 42.6% from beyond the arc for his career and is the NBA’s all-time leader with 3,747 made threes. He also holds the record for most threes in a season, drilling 402 of them in 2015-16. In fact, Curry occupies six of the top seven spots on that list.
Ray Allen was Kiyan’s second pick and he was regarded as the greatest shooter ever before Curry’s emergence. Allen ranks second all-time with 2,973 made threes and shot 40.0% from deep as well. Curry picked Allen as the greatest shooter in NBA history besides himself and he is more than deserving of a spot on the list.
Reggie Miller was next and much like earlier, he was regarded as the best shooter ever before Allen showed up. Miller shot 39.5% from beyond the arc in his career and ranks fifth all-time in threes made with 2,560. He was incredibly clutch as well.
The final spot went to Klay Thompson and while he has struggled with his shot at times in recent years, there is no denying he is one of the best ever. Thompson has shot 41.3% from beyond the arc in his career and is close to surpassing Miller on that three-pointers made list. He is sixth currently with 2,481 makes and should climb up a spot in the 2024-25 season.
Thompson also holds the record for most threes in a game with 14. You could make an argument that no one in NBA history can get hot the way he can, not even his former teammate Curry.
As for notable omissions here, Damian Lillard, James Harden, and Larry Bird are three names that will come to mind for most. They are/were excellent shooters and deserve consideration, but there is another omission that surprises me the most, Paul George.
Earlier this year, Kiyan said George is the best player ever during a sitdown with his mother La La Anthony. If someone had told me earlier that the 17-year-old had made one biased pick on his list, I’d have expected it to be the Philadelphia 76ers star, not his dad.
George would have been a better pick than Carmelo too. He has shot 38.5% from beyond the arc in his career and there have been five seasons in which he has made over 40.0% of his threes.
