In a featured video with his mother, La La, Kiyan Anthony (the son of NBA legend Carmelo Antony) revealed his shocking answer for the NBA’s greatest player of all time. Instead of selecting the usual names like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, or LeBron James, Anthony said Paul George is the best.
“My GOAT… is Paul George,” said Kiyan, via Complex. “Paul George is the best basketball player ever Kobe, Paul George… Carmelo Anthony.”
After a sweet and touching response by La La, who picked her son as the best basketball player, fans were expecting Kiyan to return the gesture and give a shout to his father, Carmelo, on his list. Instead, he went with an answer nobody saw coming.

It was bad enough that Kiyan waited so long to list his father, but the fact that Paul George was over everyone, with no mention of LeBron, or Michael Jordan, just made it so much worse. Judging by her response even La La was shocked to hear her son’s reply.
Kiyan Anthony, 16, has become somewhat of a young basketball celebrity. While his sports journey has yet to be written, it’s no secret that he aims to follow in the footsteps of his father, Carmelo, who is a 10x All-Star, 6x All-NBA player, and former NBA scoring champion. While known primarily for his run with the Knicks, Anthony played through several stints, including with the Nuggets, Trail Blazers, and even the Los Angeles Lakers during his playing days.
In modern times, Carmelo is no longer active in the league but he still plays with Kiyan, and the two have been spotted in the past some work in together. As for why Paul George, of all people, is his GOAT player, nobody really knows the reason and he has yet to elaborate on his stance. Surprisingly, Paul George’s name has come up a few times recently in the GOAT discussion, and it’s quite odd considering his lack of career accolades.
Paul George Is An Idol For Younger Players
Kiyan Anthony isn’t the first player to heap such passive praise on the Clippers swingman. While Hornets rookie Brandon Miller recognizes LeBron James as the best player ever, he said that Paul George is his personal GOAT because it was the player he watched the most throwing up.
Admittedly, Paul George is an ideal player to model your game after in today’s NBA. At 6-8 and 220 pounds with a two-sided game, George has been among the game’s top-paid players for a reason and he’s still going strong this season with averages of 22.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game.
Unfortunately, George’s GOAT case just doesn’t hold up compared to legends like Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. While he is a 9x All-Star, Paul George doesn’t have a championship, an MVP, or even a single all-NBA first-team selection on his resume and he’s running out of time to change that.
Even so, he seems to have earned a lot of respect from the young hoopers and many of them have adapted his playstyle into their own basketball arsenal. It remains to be seen how far Kiyan will make it in his basketball journey, but if his game is anything like George’s, he should be in store for a very successful NBA career.
