Los Angeles Lakers Believe They’re ‘One Move Away’ From Championship Contention

The Los Angeles Lakers are trying to compete in a stacked Western Conference after a tumultuous start to the 2022-23 NBA season. The Purple and Gold have shown very interesting things during the course of the campaign, but consistency has been an issue for them.

Darvin Ham has worked on that, and the team has looked very capable against top squads in the league, yet they’ve missed pieces during the season, hurting their chances of getting more wins. Besides the bad calls from referees, the Lakers have endured other bad situations that have prevented them from reaching the .500 mark yet.

They’re trying to improve the roster, and recent rumors suggest that Russell Westbrook could be on the move before the trade deadline strikes next Thursday. First, he was linked with the Charlotte Hornets, and more recently, the Utah Jazz were mentioned as a potential landing spot for him.

Los Angeles Lakers’ Front Office Are Convinced They’re Close To Their Top Form

All these rumors could point out to Westbrook, who has been on a tear since he adopted a sixth-man role for the Purple and Gold. Now, Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report writes that Brodie could be on the move, as the Lakers think they need just one more move before becoming legit title contenders.

“The belief within the Lakers’ organization is that they need to make at least one more move by the Feb. 9 trade deadline to give themselves a legitimate shot at competing for a championship, sources say,” Haynes reported. “The acquisition of Rui Hachimura and the return of Anthony Davis has provided a jolt of energy and a renewed sense of confidence in the locker room, along with some added motivation.”

This has been an interesting idea for the Lakers, who could cash in on Westbrook’s good moment and see what they can get in return. It seems like they keep talking with other teams around the league since the San Antonio Spurs were also mentioned in these trade rumors. Westbrook has revived his career this season, and this could be a great opportunity for him to get a bigger chance somewhere else and for the Lakers to get a big return for the former NBA MVP.
