Shannon Sharpe wasn’t pleased with Ja Morant’s comments about the Western Conference, and he let the Memphis Grizzlies star know about it.
Earlier, Morant had confidently outlined that he was “fine in the West” in an interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews. At the time of writing, the side has the second-best record in the Western Conference.
The Grizzlies have a string of tough matchups coming up. They face the Phoenix Suns twice in their next three games with a clash against the Golden State Warriors sandwiched in between.
Needless to say, Sharpe wasn’t too pleased with Morant’s confident response and had some choice replies in the offing.
Shannon Sharpe Blasts Ja Morant: “Bruh, Y’all Not Good”
Not the one to mince words, Shannon Sharpe took his shot at the Grizzlies’ star when speaking to Skip Bayless on ‘Undisputed’.
Morant has been playing some high-quality basketball averaging 27.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 7.8 assists, and his efforts have been translating into wins for the team. The guard has already garnered MVP chatter, but Sharpe was not having any of it.
“The last time the Grizz made a Western Conference Finals, Ja Morant was 13. Did I miss something… Bruh, y’all not good. Y’all not like that. Y’all ain’t got Shaq, don’t got Kobe, you don’t got a Tim Duncan.”
The Grizzlies have managed to hold their own without Desmond Bane, who is out with an injury since November 11. Last season, they made the playoffs only to lose to the Warriors.
Ahead of their upcoming skirmish against the Warriors, Morant opined that he respected the defending champions, but there was business to take care of.
"Obviously, it's the team that kicked us out of the playoffs, so you know, we always want to get our lick back. … They're the defending champs. So, regardless of their record, they're still one of the top teams in this league."@jamorant on facing the Warriors Christmas day. pic.twitter.com/ACZsCaGCQo

“Obviously, it’s the team that kicked us out of the playoffs, so we always want to get our lick back. Everybody knows what Golden State means to the game of basketball this last couple of years. They’re the defending champs. So regardless of their record, they’re still one of the top teams in this league. (They) can get going pretty fast. I wish everybody a speedy recovery and after that, a healthy season,” Ja continued. “… Strength in numbers? I guess. Nah, I ain’t with the strength in numbers. I’m Grizz next gen.”
Only time will tell if Sharpe was indeed right in his views, or whether Morant and the Grizzlies will prove him wrong as they stake the claim for another playoff and beyond run this season.
