Patrick Beverley has been the subject of huge discussion over the last 24 hours. Beverley was sent to the Memphis Grizzlies as part of a trade that brought Eric Bledsoe to the Clippers.
Beverley was one of the cornerstones of the Clippers’ franchise over the last few years, becoming the defensive enforcer of the franchise. The Clippers used Beverley as the starting guard for the majority of the time he was there, and he was a big part of the Clippers team that secured the eighth seed in the Western Conference in 2019.
When the Clippers secured Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, Beverley was ecstatically celebrating by screaming that he won the championship. In their first season together, the Clippers looked good but failed to reach the Western Conference Finals.
In the following season, Beverley and the Clippers reached the Western Conference Finals but lost out to the Suns who reached the Finals. And now, Beverley has been sent away from the franchise in exchange for a younger point guard who has a better offensive repertoire.
The internet has been trolling Pat Bev for his recent trade, but mostly for the confidence, he had in himself and the Clippers. During the first meeting of the 2019-20 season between the Clippers and the Warriors, Patrick Beverley told Steph Curry that the next five years would be his. The trash talk became infamous and would become a talking point every time the Clippers stumbled in the playoffs.
Since Pat Bev trash-talked Steph Curry, he has had a lot of misfortune. In the 2019-20 NBA season, he and the LA Clippers blew a 3-1 lead against the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the NBA Playoffs. The Clippers’ cross-town rivals Lakers ended up winning the championship to make things worse.
The following season, Beverley lost his starting role with the Clippers, as they opted for other stars. The Clippers once again failed to reach the NBA Finals, getting knocked out by the Suns. And now, he has been traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, effectively ending his time in LA.
Beverley still has two more years to make his prophecy come true. But given that he is now on the Grizzlies, who are not a championship contender, it is unlikely that he will be able to prove himself right. Regardless, Beverley will be regretting saying what he did to Steph Curry, given how his career has gone since.
