Michael Jordan is the gold standard for all athletes across the world. More than that, he is recognized as the universal symbol of excellence. People who excel in their industry are often referred to as the Michael Jordan of their field.

And that’s exactly what happened in the world of professional wrestling. WWE Superstar R Truth spoke in an interview with Bally Sports’ Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson about the field, and was asked who he thinks is the best of the best in the squared circle.

R Truth said that the Rock was the best, calling him the Michael Jordan of professional wrestling. He also called current WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns the Kobe Bryant of wrestling, and WWE legend Randy Orton is the LeBron James of the wrestling world.

“I’d say The Rock would be Michael Jordan. Roman Reigns would be Kobe, and Randy Orton would be LeBron James. Randy’s bad a**. Randy can go! And I named those guys Randy and Roman because those are guys that I find myself – I’ll sit at the monitor and I watch them because there’s a technique to wrestling. It’s like an art. It’s like painting and it’s like a dance and wrestlers have that. Randy and Roman… they can tell a story that can compel you and draw you in and Roman and Randy can do that. It’s certain wrestlers that can do that and wrestling has so many different levels to it man… you can call me the Elvis Presley of this joint, you know what I’m sayin’? These guys are like maestros at it. Randy Orton and Roman Reigns; watching them is like watching a painting being painted by Norman Rockwell.”

All three names mentioned by Truth are household figures and have achieved great success in the world of wrestling. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson might be the most popular name to come out of wrestling, who has gone on to become the highest-paid actor in the world.

Comments and comparisons to Jordan from different fields are not uncommon. A few months ago, then-Manchester United manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer called Cristiano Ronaldo the Michael Jordan of the team, describing his importance.

These comments always give an indication of just how impactful Jordan was. Not just in the realm of basketball, but the world altogether. He has come to symbolize being the best in your respective field and continued excellence.
