Tristan Thompson is well-known for being a center that knows his role and provides veteran experience. Thompson is a fantastic rebounder and finisher at the basket and provides energy when he plays. He is definitely a player that can help a team in limited minutes.

There is no doubt that many contending teams would love to have Tristan Thompson on their roster due to his skill set. It seems as though one of the teams that could target him is the Los Angeles Lakers. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype revealed that the Lakers are a team “to keep an eye on” if Tristan Thompson gets a buyout of his contract from the Pacers, and added that “his rebounding ability” would help the team.

Scotto: I’m keeping my eye on Tristan Thompson. He’s a guy that can be a part of a playoff rotation and help a team. The Los Angeles Lakers are a team to keep an eye on should Thompson agree to a buyout with the Indiana Pacers. He certainly has a lot of relationships there, and his rebounding ability would help them.

Gozlan: The Klutch Sports connections aside, they do need another big man. Their primary centers right now are Anthony Davis and LeBron James. They could use another true center there. He’d be an upgrade over DeAndre Jordan.

Tristan Thompson is definitely one of the best players that the Los Angeles Lakers could get in the buyout market. Bench production has been an issue for the Lakers this season, and perhaps Tristan Thompson can help them address that problem. He has notably won a championship with LeBron James in the past, and there’s no doubt that he would be a player that doesn’t need to figure out his role and could contribute immediately.

It remains to be seen if Tristan Thompson does end up getting a buyout from the Indiana Pacers. The franchise is currently rebuilding, so it definitely seems like a possibility. If Thompson does become a free agent, then the Lakers should absolutely look to see if they can add him and improve.
