The Golden State Warriors are reportedly exploring trade opportunities with the Brooklyn Nets, expressing interest in three of their key players: Cam Johnson, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Dennis Schroder, according to a report by Shams Charania. The Nets, transitioning into a rebuild, have opened exploratory discussions about moving these veterans, all of whom have been instrumental in keeping the team competitive despite an offseason overhaul.

Cam Johnson, 28, is enjoying a career-best season, averaging 18.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game while shooting an impressive 48.8% from the field and 43.4% from beyond the arc. His skill set as a reliable scorer and sharpshooter makes him a prime target for teams seeking offensive versatility. Johnson’s current contract, worth $22.6 million annually for the next two seasons, offers cost certainty that appeals to teams looking for high-value contributors.

Dorian Finney-Smith, a versatile forward, has been a defensive anchor for the Nets while providing efficient shooting from deep. Averaging 10.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, and shooting 43.2% from three-point range, he offers the kind of two-way play that championship contenders value. Finney-Smith’s contract includes a player option for the 2025-26 season, making him a short-term investment with potential upside.

Dennis Schroder, meanwhile, has been a revelation as one of the league’s top-performing point guards this season. Averaging 18.6 points, 6.5 assists, and shooting 38.5% from three, the veteran guard provides a mix of scoring and playmaking that could fill a critical need for the Warriors, particularly after the season-ending injury to De’Anthony Melton. Schroder’s contract expiring at $13 million adds to his trade value for teams looking to maintain future financial flexibility.

The Warriors have made it clear they are actively seeking reinforcements to support their aging core of Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. While the team remains competitive, their depth and consistency have been questioned, especially following Melton’s injury.

Golden State’s flexibility to offer expiring contracts, such as Melton’s $12.8 million deal, along with draft picks or young assets like Jonathan Kuminga, positions them as serious contenders in trade discussions.

For the Nets, trading these veterans aligns with their rebuilding trajectory. After moving Mikal Bridges last summer, Brooklyn is stockpiling assets, including an NBA-high $60 million in cap space and 12 first-round picks. Moving Johnson, Finney-Smith, and Schroder could further enhance their future flexibility while ensuring they maximize returns before the trade deadline.

A trade involving the Warriors could see the Nets receive Melton’s expiring deal, draft picks, and potentially a young asset like Kuminga or Brandin Podziemski. Such a deal would allow Golden State to fill immediate roster gaps while enabling Brooklyn to accelerate its rebuild.

As the February 6 trade deadline approaches, expect discussions to intensify, with the Warriors’ interest in the Nets’ trio reflecting their urgency to remain contenders in a stacked Western Conference.
