The Portland Trail Blazers are a franchise that is at a crossroads right now. They have a solid young core on the roster, with high-potential players like Shaedon Sharpe. However, they also have a legitimate veteran superstar in Damian Lillard. While the team has maintained its desire to build around Lillard, there is a chance that they could go in a different direction.
There have been some suggestions that the Portland Trail Blazers could end up keeping the No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. In that scenario, Brian Windhorst recently suggested that Damian Lillard could end up requesting a trade in that scenario.
“The Blazers have started to maybe indicate that they won’t trade the No. 3 pick… I checked in on the Lillard side of things… Dame does not want a youth movement [and] wants to play with veterans… They’re potentially causing an issue there with Damian Lillard.”
.@WindhorstESPN says Damian Lillard could ask out of Portland if they don't trade No. 3 pick:

Many fans would love to see Damian Lillard in a winning situation where he can compete for championships. However, it is clear that Lillard is loyal to the Trail Blazers, and perhaps a championship isn’t the main priority for him.
This season, Damian Lillard averaged 32.2 PPG, 4.8 RPG, and 7.3 APG for the Portland Trail Blazers. He also made the All-NBA third team, and it is clear that this a player still at the peak of his abilities.
Damian Lillard Wants Zion Williamson On The Portland Trail Blazers
Damian Lillard clearly prefers win-now help this season, and it seems as though he already has some players in mind. A recent report showed Lillard liking a Tweet that told him to get Zion Williamson to the Trail Blazers.
To get Zion Williamson, the Portland Trail Blazers would have to hope that prospect Scoot Henderson falls to the No. 3 spot. The Pelicans have notably shown an interest in moving up in the 2023 NBA Draft to get him.
We will see whether the Portland Trail Blazers do end up landing Zion Williamson in the future. He would clearly help the team compete both in the now and going forward after Damian Lillard, and they should exhaust every resource to try and bring him in.
