The James family could’ve been front-and-center at NBA All-Star Weekend next month in San Francisco, but it seems they’re staying away from stealing the spotlight at All-Star Weekend. Chris Haynes revealed that the NBA wanted LeBron James and Bronny James to team up for the Skills Challenge over the weekend, an invitation which was declined by the pair.

“Sources inform me that LeBron James and Bronny James were sought out by the league with the opportunity to further make history by becoming the first father-son duo to participate in the Skills Challenge at NBA All-Star Weekend next month. I was told the invitation was turned down.”

Surprisingly, Bronny was also invited to the Rising Stars game, an opportunity he wisely declined.

“Bronny James was also extended an invite to be among the G League players to participate in the Rising Stars game, but I’m told that offer was declined. LeBron is expected to make his 21st All-Star appearance next month.”

It would’ve been a nice moment to see the James’s team up for the Skills Challenge, but it’s a better decision to stay away from it. There has been some resentment from fans at Bronny being treated as something more than his talent would indicate, so it’s best he doesn’t participate in the Skills Challenge and attract even more negative attention to himself.

He definitely didn’t deserve a call for the Rising Stars game and knows he would be a target of fan hate if he accepted it. There’s no reason to push Bronny into being a player he isn’t, so to not spotlight his shortcomings at All-Star Weekend is a great move.

Bronny is averaging 13.4 points on 36.6 FG% in the G League, definitely not being worthy of a Rising Stars call-up this year.

LeBron will be a big part of the All-Star Game once again, being named as a starter for his record-breaking 21st appearance at the All-Star Game. No player is even close to equalling his total number of All-Star nominations, and it’s impossible to even imply that he hasn’t been earning his All-Star spots on merit.

He’s averaging 23.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 9.0 assists this season. While he could’ve been a reserve, it’s not surprising to see fans vote him as a starter and other voters sharing that sentiment.
