LeBron James got real about what he wants his legacy to be in life during an episode of The Shop recorded in Paris. James noted that he doesn’t want to just be defined by his basketball career. While he admitted that the end of his basketball career is fast approaching, he has a lot to achieve in his life outside of basketball.

“From time to time I think about; how do I want to be remembered. And I hope it’s not just the game of basketball. If it’s just the game of basketball that people talk about me in, I’ve kind of failed my mission.”

“The things that I do in my community, the way myself and Savannah raised our kids, my relationship with my single-parent mother, my friendship with my guys, and being able to help my people from my hometown.”

“If those conversations don’t hit the barbershops, don’t hit the forums, or whatever the case may be, then I feel like my mission wasn’t completed. I’m still not done. I am old as f**k in basketball terms. But I am young in life. I still have so much more work to do. I am still building my blocks.”

James clearly values the impact he has made off the court, just as much as he does his achievements on the court. James is one of, if not the greatest players in the history of the sport. But he has also been active in his community and his philanthropic efforts, and it is something James holds dearly in his heart.

LeBron James made an active effort to try and uplift his community throughout his NBA career, whether that be through philanthropic efforts like his ‘I Promise’ school, or donating to several charitable causes from the massive wealth he has amassed from his time in the NBA.

LeBron James Looking Forward To Next Season

In the same episode, James also talked about his excitement for the upcoming season. LeBron will get the opportunity to play with his son for the first time in his NBA career, as his son Bronny was drafted by the Lakers in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft.

While Bronny isn’t expected to play for the Lakers much this season, spending most of the time with the G-League, he is expected to get the chance with the team at different points this season. For James, this season will mean more than any other, as he gets to share the court with his son.

That doesn’t mean the Lakers will not be vying for an NBA championship next season. While they are far from the favorites to make it out of the Western Conference, which is as competitive as it has been in years, the Lakers still boast two of the best players in the NBA and can shock any team on any given night.

The Lakers will be confident if they are able to reach the playoffs, that they can make a big run from any seed. Considering what the Lakers were able to do just a year ago in the playoffs, they have enough reason to be confident about their chances.
