Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant scored his 30,000th NBA point tonight on the free-throw line against the Memphis Grizzlies. Durant is only the eighth player in NBA history to cross this mark, trailing behind Wilt Chamberlain, Dirk Nowitzki, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Karl Malone, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and LeBron James.

Durant has 26 points (10-15 FG, 2-3 3P, 4-5 FT) through three quarters as the Suns trail by eight points. They’re without Bradley Beal and Devin Booker has had a quiet night with 15 points (5-12 FG) and six assists. The Grizzlies have five double-digit scorers, led by Ja Morant’s 21 points (6-16 FG), seven rebounds, and six assists.
Durant’s feat was commended by Suns head coach Mike Budenholzer on the broadcast, who remarked on the historic nature of this accomplishment.
“He’s amazing. What he’s done. Like you said for his whole career, 30,000. He’s one of seven or eight players I think. He’s a special player and a special human.”
Durant has averaged 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in 1,100 regular-season games since being drafted in the 2007 NBA Draft. The 36-year-old is showing no signs of slowing down, averaging 26.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.2 assists this season as a top-five scorer in the NBA.
While the Suns don’t look like credible title contenders, Durant is proving he can age just as well as LeBron, with potentially more rungs to climb before he retires.
