Andre Drummond was ejected from the Philadelphia 76ers‘ game against the San Antonio Spurs. Drummond was called for a foul in the paint where Victor Wembanyama fell down, even though he barely made any contact with Wemby at the moment.

The call was then reversed, and a flop was called on Victor.

It was a bad call from the referees. But instead of letting the decision sit, the referees looked at the play, realized that it was Wembanyama who was in the wrong and overturned the decision. Wembanyama was called for a flop, and Drummond was brought back into the game, with the fans at the Wells Fargo Center giving him a standing ovation.

It was a rare moment of clarity from the NBA referees, as they usually don’t review their own decisions. But this time, given the egregious nature of Wembanyama’s simulation, they had no choice but to review and overcome their decision. It was absolutely the right decision, and Drummond got the chance to play in the game.

Wembanyama, despite the simulation, has been having a great game. At the time of this writing, Wembanyama has 20 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and a whopping eight blocks in the game. There is a chance that he could achieve a triple-double with blocks being one of his double-digit statistical categories.

If he’s able to achieve this, he will join rarified air, becoming one of only nine players to have multiple triple-doubles with 10+ blocks. Wemby achieved this for the first time in February of this year, as he put up 27 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 blocks against the Toronto Raptors.

Being able to achieve this once again so early in his career will be absolutely incredible. The fact of the matter is, that Wembanyama continues to prove to people that he is a once-of-a-generation star who will carry the NBA for the next decade to come.
