Patrick Beverley was all cheeky during his announcement as a Philadelphia 76er, and he took a fun dig at reigning MVP and new teammate Joel Embiid.

During his jersey unveil, Beverley said he wanted jersey number 21 with Philly, but he also had a smile on his face and mentioned Embiid as the MVP.

“I promise you I wanted 21 but…you know, the reigning MVP.”

In his 11-year career in the NBA, the guard has played for multiple teams, with the Los Angeles Lakers and the Chicago Bulls being his sides for the past season. Now, he will bolster Philly’s defense and hopes to help exceed expectations of the Sixers winning a championship. As such, Beverley is confident of making a splash with the side.

“I impact winning on every level,” he said. “I’m the guy who doesn’t hit a three, comes in and hits four threes. Hits big threes. Get stops. Sacrifice [my] body. Leads the team. Leads the locker room. Whatever it is to impact winning. And it’s a lot of ways you can impact winning without putting the ball in the hole and I think that’s really important that people understand.”

How he rolls with the Sixer now will be a wait-and-watch.

Patrick Beverley Wants The Sixers To Focus On The Eastern Conference Finals First

The newly-appointed point guard for the Philadelphia 76ers outlined his first objective with the team, and it was a step-by-step goal.

“I think that a lot of teams in the NBA wish they had what the Sixers have,” Beverly said. “I think collectively, we can do something special. Obviously, you know, the goal was to always win a championship, but you got to start in Eastern Conference Finals first. So I think that’s the mindset. I think that’s the goal. Obviously, ultimately, the championship.”

The Sixers are loaded with talent in Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. Add PJ Tucker and James Harden (assuming Daryl Morey can work his magic) to the mix, they will be another stellar unit with Beverley in the fold.

Getting deeper in the playoffs has always been the Achilles heel for Philly, but maybe with Beverly, this is the year.
