In the NBA, there are a lot of talented players, and there’s no doubt that the league represents the pinnacle of basketball. While a lot of players are both talented and love the sport itself, it seems as though that may not be the case for everyone.

Guard Patrick Beverley has recently claimed that around 50% of NBA players don’t like basketball. There’s no doubt that this is a shocking number, and a lot of us would expect that number to be lower. (38:35)

“50, and I was being nice… Preparation… Watching film…Most teammates I know who don’t love basketball are the really f*cking good ones. Most skilled. Wildest s*** in the world… You have so much skill, it’s free-flowing. The preparation is different when you have so much skill that you can just show up to the game and get a motherf*cking 30. That might work against other teams who aren’t that good, but you can’t do that in the playoffs.”

At the end of the day, playing NBA basketball is still a job for a lot of players. It is fair for them to treat it as such as well. Though a lot of players do have love for the game, and that feeling is also valid, it is also okay to simply do your job, and then clock in and go home.

Michael Jordan Was A Player Who Absolutely Loved The Game

One player whose love for the game should never be questioned is Michael Jordan, and his passion for the sport of basketball was well-known. In fact, he once claimed that he’d still play basketball if he didn’t get paid.

“I love the game of basketball, and I feel that if I didn’t get paid right now, I’d still play the game of basketball without a doubt,” Jordan said. “I don’t want to ever lose that love. If I do, then I want to quit. I know this is a business [and] I know a lot of people make a lot of money in the game of basketball. But no one can express or pay the love that I have for the game.”

There is no doubt that Michael Jordan truly appreciates the game, and he genuinely hooped because he had fun playing the game. Others, like LeBron James, also play for the love of the game, and this mentality is absolutely appreciated from the fans’ perspective.
