Zion Williamson made it to the NBA as the No. 1 overall pick in 2019, expected to mark an era in the league like LeBron James has done. However, injuries have become a big issue for Williamson, who has missed plenty of games during his first seasons.

Now, according to Skip Bayless, the forward is healthy enough to play, but he doesn’t want to take on the court just yet.

“From what I’ve heard, the Pelicans team doctors have cleared Zion Williamson to play in these playoff games. But Zion’s independent team of medical people says he’s only 99%, and they don’t want to completely clear him until he’s 100% ready to go. So, team management is increasingly at odds with Zion’s stepfather. And they just believe that the stepfather, with the advice of the medical people on their side, is holding Zion back from playing.”

Bayless adds that Zion’s stepfather isn’t happy with the Pelicans because they keep saying they can waive Zion every month if it’s the best of their interests. Moreover, he’s not the only one unhappy with this decision, as the rest of the Pelicans players also have grown frustrated with this situation.

“The Pelicans players are not happy with Zion in particular because they’re fearing he’s getting the wrong advice, as a young player, that is messing with his mind. They think he should just suck it up and stand up to both his stepfather and his medical people and just say, ‘no, I feel great, I’m going to go ahead and play.'”

Skip adds that several players on the Pelicans’ roster are dealing with injuries right now, and they’re playing through them, but Zion is taking a different route. This could be a major issue for the Pels, who need all their best talent on the court, and without Zion, that’s not possible.

Some reports suggest the Pelicans feel Zion isn’t close to returning, while others claim that the player won’t be back in action until he feels like himself again. This last part is what makes others feel suspicious about this situation.

Zion Williamson Says He Wants To Feel Like Himself Before Returning To The Court

The Pelicans announced that Zion won’t be available for their play-in game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, but right now, that doesn’t seem like a problem. If they make it to the playoffs, they will need their best player against the No. 1 seed in the West.

Zion’s relationship with the Pelicans hasn’t been the best of all, as these injuries have messed up with him and team management. We have to sit and wait to see how this situation develops, but many believe this is the beginning of the end of Zion in New Orleans.
