  • According to The Athletic, a Pelicans organization member thinks they should move on from Zion Williamson
  • Another executive reportedly expects an MVP season from the young All-Star
  • Zion Williamson needs to have a big year in 2023-24

Zion Williamson is at a crossroads in his NBA career, with the eyes of the NBA world waiting to see how he reacts to all the controversy that has recently surrounded him.

The New Orleans Pelicans star got caught in a public feud with pornstar Moriah Mills, who later accused him of beating her. And his injury concerns haven’t gone away either. According to a report from The Athletic, a Pelicans executive has now said the team should ‘pull the plug’ on Zion and move on from him.

“I had one person associated with a team tell me New Orleans should pull the plug on his era while they have the chance this offseason. I had another person tell me he believes Williamson is going to be fueled by all the controversy this summer and become an MVP candidate in 2023-24.”

The report also suggests that another executive thinks an MVP season is loading for Zion, which shows that the organization is currently divided on how to move forward with the No. 1 overall pick from the 2019 NBA Draft.

Zion Williamson is already a two-time NBA All-Star and he can lead the Pelicans to the top of the Western Conference, but at some point, people get tired of waiting. It does look like he’s on thin ice with the Pelicans, and he has no choice but to ball out in style next season.

The Team Has Reportedly Not Considered Trading Zion Williamson

The New Orleans Pelicans have been in an odd place for a while now, not great but not too bad either. They need Zion to take the next step if they want to break out of that. And it seems the team does think that he has it in him, based on the noises coming from the GM

“So unfortunately for Zion, he’s just an oddity and somebody that people pay a great deal of attention to and manufacture a lot of stories around. We never had a single [trade] conversation that Zion was part of.”

Whatever the team says, the clock is surely ticking for Zion Williamson, and the next season will prove to be make or break. Hopefully, he can make it because a healthy Zion Williamson is something NBA fans deserve to see.
