  • The real reason why LeBron holds himself back from ridiculous scoring numbers

Even at 38 years old, LeBron James remains one of the best players in basketball. Last season, amid an up-and-down season for the Lakers, LeBron was one of the few constants with averages of 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game on 50% shooting.

While scoring has never been considered LeBron’s strongest trait, he’s found new and effective ways to put the ball in the hole.

Now, more than ever, it’s clear to see where James ranks among the top scorers ever and his ability to adapt his game continues to keep him a step above the competition.

“Listen bro… he (LeBron) can score 50 anytime he wants,” said LeBron’s former coach Tyronn Lue. “He just loves to play the game the right way but sometimes the right way is getting 50. He can do that every night and I pushed that button.”

During his days with the Cavs, Tyronn Lue had the job of coaching LeBron and he committed to a tough-love approach in order to bring the most out of his guys.

With LeBron, in particular, he challenged the King to become something more and it’s during these years that we saw LeBron at his absolute best.

Today, James probably isn’t capable of dropping 50 every night, but he can still score with the best of them. This season, it’ll be up to Lakers coach Darvin Ham to maximize LeBron and help ignite him to play with some real intensity.

The Age Of LeBron Is Not Yet Over

Despite being almost 40 and well past his prime, LeBron isn’t ready to relinquish control. As the NBA’s most accomplished and famed athlete, the whole world is watching this final stretch of his career, but it’s not quite over yet…

At this age, what he is doing is unprecedented,” said Darvin Ham on SiriusXM NBA Radio. “Hopefully, he has a few more years to come, but if there is anybody that can do it, he can play until he is probably 50. Just the way he takes care of himself, his nutrition, his sleep habits, the regimen, everything he does pre-work, during the work, post-work, his regimen, everything he does to make himself not just available, but elite.”

So, it seems that LeBron has been holding back his true scoring potential, but he prefers to play as a distributor for others instead. Considering his amazing success with various teams, this team-first strategy has worked well for LeBron and it’s probably what has maintained his longevity after all these years.
