Darvin Ham Says LeBron James Could Play Until He’s 50

LeBron James has been doing some incredible stuff over the past few years. By now, most NBA superstars would be on the verge of retirement, but even after 20 years in the league, LeBron is still effective on the court. So while James has slowed down a bit athletically, he finds ways to make up for it by adjusting his game for peak efficiency.

Now that we know LeBron is set to return for another season, fans are starting to wonder just how much longer he can keep going like this. Surprisingly, according to Darvin Ham, Bron could play into his 50s if he really wanted to.

“At this age, what he is doing is unprecedented,” said Ham on SiriusXM NBA Radio. “Hopefully, he has a few more years to come, but if there is anybody that can do it, he can play until he is probably 50. Just the way he takes care of himself, his nutrition, his sleep habits, the regimen, everything he does pre-work, during the work, post-work, his regimen, everything he does to make himself not just available, but elite.”

James is coming off his best season as a Laker. With averages of 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game on 50% shooting, no. 23 is showing no signs of slowing down and he’s expected to carry his momentum into next season with Anthony Davis, D’Angelo Russell, and Austin Reaves, among others.

What comes after that is anyone’s guess, especially because even James himself seems unsure of his future. But for Bron, it seems like he’ll have the chance to dictate for himself how his career ends, and that’s a very rare thing for any professional athlete.

When Is The End For LeBron?

Despite the comments from Ham, it’s unlikely that LeBron is still in the NBA on his 50th birthday. The truth is, the NBA takes a toll on the body and the process of staying in shape for months on end can be a grueling experience.

The key for James is knowing his limits and stepping down when the process becomes too much for him to endure.

“He’s one guy that I’m not going to say no about,” said Rich Paul. “I think it’s important to understand what really motivates him. I know it, obviously I’ve been around him for so long that I can tell you what his day probably looks like without even talking to him. As long as his mind is there, as long as he’s still excited about playing in the NBA — in addition to his health — absolutely.”

It’s no secret that James wants to play with his son, so the expectation is that he’ll stick around at least until Bronny’s rookie season is over. But when it comes to LeBron, nobody should be surprised if he’s still around long after Bronny’s debut…
