The Toronto Raptors reportedly met with former Brooklyn Nets coach Steve Nash for the head coach position.

Per The Athletic’s Shams Charania, “The Toronto Raptors met with Steve Nash to discuss their head coaching job, sources tell me and @joevardon. Nash, a Canadian basketball legend, had a .584 record (94-67) in two-plus seasons coaching the Nets. Toronto has had a wide-ranging coaching search.”

Toronto has been looking at a few names after firing previous coach Nick Nurse on April 21 after the team failed to make the postseason for the first time under his tenure. At the other end, Nash was one of the casualties following Brooklyn’s poor start to the season.

Nash is a household name in Canada following his MVP runs with the Suns. And should he indeed be looked at as one of the key contenders for the job, he will have his hands full, considering that the Raptors have been one of the worst half-court offensive teams in the NBA this season.

Raptors Rumors: Steve Nash Over JJ Redick?

Earlier, former NBA star JJ Redick was one of the candidates interviewed by the Raptors. “Fifteen-year NBA veteran and ESPN analyst JJ Redick interviewed for the Toronto Raptors’ coaching job this week, sources told ESPN”

Per NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, “Redick was part of a first round of interviews and met with franchise leadership in Toronto recently, sources said. He had been a target for several teams, including the Boston Celtics, as an assistant coach since retiring as a player in 2021.”

Now, with news of Nash in the fray, the Raptors will have a decision to make. For Nash, who recently revealed that not winning a ring was one regret he had in his decorated career, a chance to return to coach duties would mean fulfilling that wish in the form of a mentor.

Both Nash and Redick have their own unique styles of coaching, and the Canadian team would surely benefit from having young, versatile leaders manning the sidelines. Only time will tell who gets to make the final cut.
