Ray Allen may be out of the NBA, but he still keeps collecting awards and honors. The former sharpshooter keeps making moves and winning off the court and recently received an incredible honor.
The 2x NBA champion was part of the UConn Class of 2023 graduates. A series of pictures and videos surfaced showing the retired player getting his diploma.

Allen was drafted into the NBA in 1996, being part of an incredible class. 27 years later, he’s returning to his alma mater to pick up his diploma in a big ceremony.
“When I was in school there was a couple of RAs that were in their 30s and I thought, Wow, they’re still in school. It’s never too late to learn,” Allen told The Hartford Courant. “This day isn’t about me, it’s about the people that helped me along the way to finish this mission, be on this journey to graduate from college. And you got to do it by yourself but it’s made up of a lot of people around you, so I didn’t want it to be about me walking in and everybody, you know. These kids are on their individual journeys, so I was so inspired to be sitting next to them and talking to them.”
It’s always great to see players returning to their colleges to finish their majors. Allen is one of them, and just like another legendary sharpshooter, Stephen Curry, he’s picked up his diploma after many years of going to play in the NBA.
Ray Allen’s Incredible NBA Career
Allen is one of the best players in his position of all time. He had to adapt his game to make room for other stars, but during his prime, he was a menace to the rest of the league. In Milwaukee and Seattle, he was incredible, leading those teams to try to compete in the NBA.
During his career, he earned big honors, including his two NBA titles, as well as 10 NBA All-Star selections, he made the All-NBA Second Team in 2005, the All-NBA Third Team in 2011, and also became one of the 75 best players in NBA history.
During his time at UConn, Ray averaged 19.0 points per game in three seasons, even becoming the USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year in 1995 and having his jersey retired from the Huskies.
Allen was one of the best players in his position and a controversial one at times. It’s good to see that now that everything is said and done, he keeps winning.
