Ja Morant has seemingly learned nothing from his previous gun-flashing controversy. The Memphis Grizzlies superstar has once again made headlines for showing off a gun in an Instagram live video.

Morant has been suspended indefinitely by the Grizzlies. According to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated, rival executives want NBA commissioner Adam Silver to punish Morant and make an example out of him.

“This was incredibly dumb,” an NBA executive said.

Ja previously received an 8-game suspension for his actions. The 23-year-old showed remorse for his actions but didn’t learn his lesson.

“Rival executives believe half a season—or more—isn’t out of the question,” Mannix wrote.

Considering Morant is the face of the Memphis Grizzlies organization, Silver needs to make an example out of him. Ja is a fan favorite, and his actions will have a negative impact on the kids that are watching him. It could send a wrong message to them and cause problems in the future.

Keeping that in mind, Ja could receive a 50-game suspension or more without pay. Former NBA forward Chandler Parsons wants the NBA to suspend Morant for the entire 2023-24 season

The severity of Morant’s suspension will likely be unveiled in the coming days. For now, it’s certain that Morant wasn’t serious about improving himself after his first gun incident two months ago.

Ja Morant Needs To Be Held Accountable For His Reckless Actions

Ja Morant is blessed with incredible skills to play the game of basketball. But at the same time, Morant seems to be lacking self-control in his off-the-court actions.

NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski recently shed some light on the level of punishment that Morant may receive from the league.

“Ja Morant is facing the very real possibility of a lengthy suspension to start next season after this latest incident where he ended up carrying a firearm in his possession. This is twice in two months now. The league suspended him for eight games, two of them being retroactive. I sense already that Adam Silver is going to feel increasing pressure from other teams around the league that see this as, as much as it impacts the Grizzlies, it also impacts them… If that was a weapon in Ja Morant’s hand, he will likely face a significant suspension to start next season.”

Carrying a gun is not an offense in Memphis, but Morant seems to be forgetting that he is still employed by the NBA. According to the league’s policy, each player is expected to keep a clean image even off the court.

Considering this is Morant’s second offense in a span of just two months, it won’t be a surprise if the league hands him a significant suspension without pay. It could help Ja in learning the consequences of his actions.
