The Los Angeles Lakers have a new four-legged star joining their team, courtesy of Rui Hachimura.

The forward introduced his dog Jake in a Lakers jersey. The Golden Doodle from South Dakota sported the forward’s LA icon jersey with No. 28.

“Hey everybody, this is Jake. He’s two-years-old, golden doodle from South Dakota,” Rui introduced the furry pet to the world.

The clip ended with Jake getting good cuddly pats from his owner.

It’s nice to see some new faces in the squad this time. All jokes apart, the Lakers will feel that they have had a better offseason by ensuring they retained the young core, including Rui, who signed a three-year, $51 million deal to stay with the Lakers.

This was one of the solid moves by the Lakers, as Rui can play seamlessly alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. His size and athleticism make him a seamless fit, and he was instrumental in the team’s playoff run where they made the Conference Finals.

During the 2022-23 playoffs, he averaged 12.2 PPG, 3.6 RPG, and 0.6 APG while shooting 55.7% from the field and 48.7% from the 3PT range. Hopefully, he can continue to contribute in the same vein for LA.

Stephen A. Smith Backs The Lakers To Make The Western Conference Finals In The 2023-24 Season

The Lakers picked up from where they left off last season by retaining the smart moves they made ahead of the trade deadline in February.

And NBA Stephen A. Smith believes that team is capable of making the WCF for the upcoming season.

“I’m not going to doubt that [LeBron James] is going to be ready for the season… Keeping [Rui] Hachimura and Austin Reaves, that’s a big deal,” said Smith on First Take.

“Acquiring Vincent, elevating your backcourt play. Do they need an additional big body, absolutely. But I think when you look at the fact that they walk into this season with a level of continuity as opposed to looking for it and searching for it by disrupting your team and making wholesale changes mid-way like they did this past season. I think that’s a plus. They accomplished what they accomplished by playing 25 games together. [The Lakers] are good enough to get back to the [Conference Finals].”

The major question will still be the health of their two superstars, but with the depth they have, the team will be confident of going the distance.
