This season has been a mixed one of sorts for Russell Westbrook. Though he struggled during his time with the Los Angeles Lakers, he has rediscovered himself since signing with the Los Angeles Clippers, and it is clear that Westbrook is still a starting-quality point guard in the league even if he is no longer in MVP form.

Russell Westbrook will be a free agent this offseason, and there has been some speculation that the Los Angeles Clippers may not be able to bring him back. However, according to NBA insider Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the Clippers and Westbrook are mutually interested in a new deal.

“Mutual interest exists between the Los Angeles Clippers and Russell Westbrook on a new contract entering the offseason, sources say. Westbrook averaged 15.8 points, 7.6 assists, and 4.9 rebounds per game in 21 regular-season games with the Clippers. The nine-time All-Star does not have much desire to play anywhere else other than in Los Angeles.”

There is no doubt that this is good news for the Los Angeles Clippers, as Russell Westbrook has played really well for the franchise and meshed well with stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. Hopefully, the two parties do end up working something out.

Paul George Wants Russell Westbrook Back In Free Agency

Aside from the Los Angeles Clippers having an interest in bringing back Russell Westbrook, it seems as though his teammates are ready for that to happen as well. In fact, Paul George previously claimed that he wants Russell Westbrook to stay with the team.

“He’s played himself back into the Russ that he was and that we all knew that he still was,” George said. “Definitely gonna be some decisions. I definitely vouched for him to be here. I’m definitely vouching for him to come back. I just think he brings so much to his team and I mean it’s amazing to watch him. He’s older than me and he’s putting his body on the line. He’s giving literally everything he’s got to our franchise during this playoff run. So I just think he’s the leader that we need at the point guard position going forward and would love to have him back.”

A trio of Russell Westbrook, Paul George, and Kawhi Leonard is definitely enough to potentially win a championship. The key, of course is all three of them being available, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
