Point guard Russell Westbrook is a future Hall of Famer, and there’s no doubt that he’s one of the greatest players to ever play the game of basketball. However, he has often been criticized this season for how he gets guarded by opposing teams, as they frequently leave Westbrook wide open to exploit his lack of perimeter shooting.
Those sorts of criticisms were most prominent when the Los Angeles Clippers lost five games in a row after signing Russell Westbrook. Since then, though, the team has won four in a row. Previously, Westbrook clapped back at the haters who criticized him for how teams defend him.
“I’m actually tired of that conversation of how teams play me, and ‘I don’t do shit’ — I just hoop.”
I remember talking to Russell Westbrook after the Sacramento game, when Clippers won possession battle for first time with him on roster:
"I'm actually tired of that conversation of how teams play me, and 'I don't do shit' — I just hoop."

There is no doubt that Russell Westbrook has figured out how to adjust to the way teams were guarding him, and he was a big part of the Los Angeles Clippers’ recent win against the Golden State Warriors. Hopefully, his good play continues. The true test, however, will be playoff defense, and it’ll be interesting to see how Russell Westbrook does in the postseason.
During his time with the Los Angeles Clippers, Russell Westbrook has averaged 13.4 PPG, 4.4 RPG, and 7.4 APG. He has definitely been an impactful player for the team and could be an x-factor for them down the line. Westbrook has been a good fit thus far, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
Stephen Curry Recently Lauded Russell Westbrook For Always Playing Hard
After the Warriors lost to the Clippers, superstar Stephen Curry took the time to shout out Russell Westbrook. Curry lauded Westbrook for always showing up and playing hard, noting that’s a skill “you can’t teach.”
“One thing about Russ, no matter what people say about him or how he’s playing, he competes. I know [the Clippers] love that about him. Every night he shows up and plays hard. That’s something you can’t teach. It’s kind of a lost art these days.”
There is no doubt that Russell Westbrook always leaves everything on the floor, no matter the circumstances. Though his play can be inconsistent, what is consistent about Westbrook is his effort level. It is something that even his opponents respect about him, and having a player that is consistently available and can, at times, carry a team on his own is valuable to any team.
