Russell Westbrook has not enjoyed the last 2 seasons too much, his year and a half with the Lakers was filled with disappointment and criticism. And while he is in a new situation now, it seemed like things might not work out at first.

After being traded by the Los Angeles Lakers, Russell Westbrook was bought out and ended up joining their rivals, the Los Angeles Clippers. Despite a losing start to life as a Clipper though, Westbrook seems to now be enjoying himself.

“It’s definitely been a great experience that I’m grateful for and blessed that God has put me in this position,” Russell Westbrook said. “I’m just going to cherish every moment I have and hopefully we are playing at the end of June.”

The Los Angeles Clippers haven’t won an NBA championship like they might have hoped they would when they revamped their team in 2019, but the possibility still exists this season. Russell Westbrook’s impact is being appreciated by his new teammates and co-stars, Kawhi Leonard recently praised him.

As to whether the Clippers will be playing basketball in June, a lot depends on Paul George returning from injury in time. The Clippers’ second star picked up a knee injury recently, but despite initial fears, it seems he could be back if the Clippers make the postseason. Russell Westbrook is now more important than ever for the team and he will need to step up as he did in their latest win over the Thunder.

Russell Westbrook Has Made It Past The First Round Of The Playoffs Just Once Since 2016

While Russell Westbrook has played in the NBA Finals before, his playoff record has been quite poor since Kevin Durant left the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2016. Despite having Paul George alongside him, Westbrook didn’t make it past the first round of the playoffs till he joined the Houston Rockets in 2019. They went to the second round but eventually lost in the Conference Semifinals.

Westbrook is averaging over 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists per game for the Los Angeles Clippers. He had 24 points in their win over the Thunder. If Kawhi Leonard can play at his dominant best, and Westbrook continues his production with Paul George eventually returning, a Finals appearance could well be on the cards for the Clippers.
