Russell Westbrook had a pretty turbulent first season with the Los Angeles Lakers. Westbrook, who is a native of Los Angeles, was looking forward to playing in his hometown. But Russ underperformed significantly in the purple and gold. But to a certain extent, Westbrook has been scapegoated by Laker fans for what was an overall poor performance from the entire team barring LeBron James.
There has been some doubt cast over a potential return to the Lakers next season for Russell Westbrook. And if his latest activity on Instagram is anything to go by, Westbrook may have already closed that chapter of his life. Westbrook recently liked a comment by a fan telling him to not return to the Los Angeles Lakers, and rather go anywhere else, or even possibly retire.
“Please don’t go back next year. Do whatever it takes to go somewhere else, or even consider retiring, but please leave (the) Lakers alone dude please.”
Westbrook’s Instagram activity over recent weeks has raised a lot of eyebrows among NBA fans.
Russell Westbrook recently got rid of all pictures and references to his stint with the Lakers. On top of that, he uploaded a video during this time about his play that did little to settle any doubts. The Lakers are expected to try and shop Westbrook around to the rest of the league and are even ready to part ways with their first-round picks to move on from the former MVP.
One NBA insider believes that the best move for the Lakers would be to send Russell Westbrook to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Buddy Hield, the player the Lakers were eyeing last year before the Westbrook trade went through, and Malcolm Brogdon, one of the highly-rated young point guards in the NBA today. The Lakers will have a lot of work to do to find Westbrook a new home in the NBA in the offseason.
