Shaquille O’Neal is considered by fans the most dominant player in NBA history. Shaq was a scary combination of size, speed, and strength, as he would bulldoze opposing defenses with ease. But the Diesel has a weakness; the free throw line. One of his misses actually showed how ferocious his power was.

During a playoff game against the Sacramento Kings, Shaquille O’Neal was sent to the free-throw line. Notably, Shaq was terrible at free throws. But Shaq didn’t just miss the free throw, he hit the rim so hard that the sound reverberated across the entire arena and even on the television feed. Commentator Bill Walton also acknowledged how loud the miss was.

O’Neal being sent to the free throw line was not just a blessing for opposing teams but was even a strategy. The San Antonio Spurs began the ‘Hack-A-Shaq’ strategy where they would intentionally foul Shaquille O’Neal to send him to the free throw line, as it was the only realistic way of stopping or at least limiting O’Neal’s dominance.

Shaquille O’Neal Was A Force Of Nature.

Shaquille O’Neal was a supreme force when he was on the court. At his best, Shaq was near unstoppable, with few teams figuring out how to try and topple the Diesel. Big Aristotle could take over games in a way that very few players before and after have been able to do in the NBA.

Recently, Jamal Crawford spoke about why Shaquille O’Neal in his athletic prime would dominate the modern NBA, claiming that the modern centers in the league would not be able to keep up with Shaq’s incredible physical prowess.

Shaq’s peak was definitely in Los Angeles, where in 8 years, he went to 4 NBA Finals, and won 3 NBA championships alongside Kobe Bryant. Shaq averaged 27.0 points, 11.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 514 games during his 8-year stint with the Los Angeles Lakers.
