Shaquille O’Neal explained how the Boston Celtics could storm back to contention after trailing the Miami Heat 0-2 in the Eastern Conference Finals.

“They’re a very well-disciplined team,” Shaq said in the aftermath of the Celtics’ Game 2 loss, via Heavy Sports. “It’s just sometimes they have these …” Shaq replied, his voice trailing off. “Like some teams, you have to poke ’em to get them there, and when they’re poked they play well. But they need to learn how to play with that edge.

He further added: “Like, it’s the Eastern Conference finals, and we’re against a team that only has one guy and nine others, four or five undrafted players … You can’t let a team like that (beat you).”

The Celtics were outplayed by Jimmy Butler in both contests. Boston was runner-up in last season’s NBA Finals and was firm favorites heading into this season’s Conference Finals against the Heat, but they have been thoroughly outplayed by Miami.

On his part, Celtics’ star Jayson Tatum believed that the team was still confident of pulling it back and came to head coach Joe Mazzulla’s rescue after the latter was under fire following the last two defeats.

“We got his back, he got ours. Joe [Mazzulla] ain’t missing no shots tonight, he ain’t have no turnovers. I missed shots, I had turnovers. Anytime we lose, I look at what I could’ve done better.”

Only time will tell if Shaq’s advice is the way to go for Boston.

Jayson Tatum Believes The Celtics Are Still In With A Chance

Tatum sounded optimistic when he spoke of the Celtics getting their noses in front after trailing 0-2 in the ECF.

“It’s tough, it’s a challenge,” Tatum said about being down 2-0. ” It’s no point being up here sad and sh*t. They came in and won two games. They played well you give them credit. But we’re not dead or anything, we got a great opportunity. I still have the utmost confidence, everybody has the utmost confidence. We just got to get ready for Game 3.”

It remains to be seen if Tatum and Jaylen Brown can put Boston back in contention. For now, they need to figure out a way to ensure the Heat don’t go up 3-0. And that’s easier said than done.
