The Ben Simmons storyline has been sort of lost to time amid all the craziness of the past year, but his fall from stardom has to be one of the wildest developments in the entire NBA. At one point, Ben was an All-Star, and this past season he could barely stay on the floor at all.

With years having passed since his last All-Star season, many have already given up hope that Ben Simmons will ever revert back to 76ers form. But if you ask Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie, a Simmons comeback could be the key to getting his team to the next level.

“Ben Simmons. A healthy Ben is an All-Star, max-level guy, and it completely changes our group.”

Nobody can say for certain where things went wrong for Ben. Early in his career, he was showing real signs of stardom with averages of 15.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game on 56% shooting.

With the Nets, however, he put up just 6.9 points per game. Obviously, Brooklyn is a long way off from the big three they had a year and a half ago, but if they are able to fix Ben Simmons then it could make them a real threat in the East.

Will Ben Simmons Ever Become An All-Star Again?

Physically, nothing is stopping Ben Simmons from being the dominant force he once was. While he has struggled with injuries in the past, he’s been mostly healthy since his last All-Star season. By all accounts, the problem with Ben is his total and complete lack of confidence.

“The only difference between Ben Simmons in Philly and Ben Simmons now? Confidence,” said Draymond Green. “I know how it feels to lose confidence because I lost confidence in my shot… You’re the same person that was going out there and would get 15 assists before someone blinked, and yet you don’t feel that you can do that no more because your confidence is gone.”

The key to getting the old Ben Simmons back is to simply unlock the confidence he had before. That’s obviously easier said than done, but there is hope that the Nets can pull off a miracle here with the last remaining remnant of their big three era.
