Stan Van Gundy and Jeff Van Gundy are both best known at this time as broadcasters that call NBA games and provide analysis.

They are both former NBA Head Coaches, with Stan Van Gundy coaching the Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, and New Orleans Pelicans, while his brother Jeff Van Gundy coached the New York Knicks and the Houston Rockets.

The two have a friendly rivalry, and speaking on the Knuckleheads podcast, Stan recently said that he would beat Jeff in a 1 on 1 matchup: “Listen I won all of those (1-on-1 games), I’m two and a half years older, so that makes a difference.

“But by the time I got to college, and he was a sophomore, then it turned. But I could still win the 1 on 1 because I wanted to score. We had different mentalities… So 1 on 1, I’m gonna win.”

As anyone that has ever had a sibling will know, it’s impossible to admit that they are better than you at any sport. And while Stan Van Gundy threw his brother some compliments in there, he did ultimately say that he would win in a head-to-head.

When it comes to coaching, the two brothers are more even. While Stan Van Gundy has enjoyed a long career as a coach, they both took their teams to NBA Finals, although neither can claim a championship. And it may also be thanks to the players at their disposal since Stan had a lot more superstars to work with than Jeff ever did, including prime Dwight Howard.

Stan Van Gundy Said Prime Dwight Howard Was Only Comparable To LeBron James And Kobe Bryant In The 2000s

The interview was incredibly interesting, considering that Stan has coached the likes of Dwyane Wade, Shaquille O’Neal, and Dwight Howard. Speaking on Howard, Van Gundy had some high praise for his former superstar

“The time I was here, to me, the only two guys you could talk about in his (Dwight Howard’s) league at that time, were LeBron (James) and Kobe (Bryant), who was still playing. That’s it. There was no one else to talk about, in my opinion.”

Both Stan Van Gundy and Jeff Van Gundy are now more broadcasters than Head Coaches, and their personalities have made them quite popular in the NBA world. It is likely though, that if asked, Jeff Van Gundy might have a different opinion on who would a 1 on 1 matchup.
