Stephen A. Smith called out LeBron James for the latter’s tweet clarifying the report around his injury return.

In response to James’ tweet where he remarked about the sources, “LeBron, It’s not like you always speak for yourself though,” Smith lambasted the veteran. “That’s not true. Don’t lie. There are plenty of people who speak for you. Kendrick Perkins and I hear from them constantly.”

Earlier this week, reports of the forward returning to play the Los Angeles Lakers’ final three games of the regular season did the rounds, but the four-time NBA champion took to Twitter soon after to invalidate the development.

“There wasn’t an evaluation today,” James wrote. “And there hasn’t been any target date for my return,” James wrote. “I’m just working around the clock, every day (3X a day) to give myself to best chance of coming back full strength whenever that is. God bless y’all sources. I speak for myself!”

James’ foot injury has kept him out of the last 12 games and has been deemed ‘serious.’ The 38-year-old’s remarks further cast a dark cloud on his return as LA looks to book a playoff berth.

And Smith, for one, wasn’t pleased about James’ retort on journalists and their sources. Not a man who minces words, the analyst ensured that he gave James a piece of his mind while adding for good measure that he had his contacts who were reliable.

Only time will tell how James will react to Smith’s remarks.

LeBron James Is Leaving No Stone Unturned As He Looks To Make A Quick Recovery

He may have questioned the sources of journalists, but James cannot be faulted for his intense ramp-up to recover and take the floor for the Lakers.

NBA insider Brian Windhorst further cemented that, saying, “From what I’m told, LeBron is turning over every stone he possibly can from a treatment perspective to get that foot in position to return at some point this season.”

To add further, the 38-year-old had reportedly told one of the Crypto.com Arena staffers that he would return for the playoffs.

On the season front, the Lakers have done well despite James being on the mend. They have managed to break their way into the Top 10 and are looking to climb the rungs with two consecutive wins — one against the Orlando Magic, followed by a stunner against the Phoenix Suns.

They play the Oklahoma City Thunder next and hope to get to the .500 mark. They are 36-37, and with nine games remaining, the time for James’ return would be perfect, though nobody knows when that is.
