Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat are heading to the 2023 NBA Finals after a hard-fought battle against the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Celtics tied the series at 3-3 after going down 0-3. In the crucial Game 7, Jaylen Brown completely disappeared. As a result, he has fallen through the ranks in Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo’s list of the top 20 players in the NBA right now. Upon hearing Russo’s thoughts, Stephen A. Smith debated that Jimmy Butler being better than Brown was questionable.

“I think Jimmy Butler is questionable because you gotta take into account the regular season,” Smith said. “Jimmy Butler during the playoffs, you can sit up there and bring that up. That’s fine. I’m taking into account the entire season. I understand the impact that Jimmy Butler has. I think Jimmy Butler’s a stud. But I also think Jaylen Brown is a stud. I think that’s debatable. And I don’t think that Paul George deserves to be on the list ahead of Jaylen Brown. I don’t believe that.”

Smith didn’t deny the fact that Butler is the better player during the playoffs. But the veteran NBA analyst believes Brown is still ahead of Butler when the regular season is taken into account. It’s quite ironic since the Celtics almost traded for Jimmy Butler instead of drafting Brown in 2018.

Either way, Brown had a chance to prove his worth during Game 7 vs. the Heat. But he fumbled the opportunity by having 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists while committing 8 turnovers. On top of that, Brown shot an abysmal 8-of-23 from the field.

Will Jaylen Brown Return To The Boston Celtics?

Over the past few months, many rumors have emerged about Jaylen Brown’s future with the Celtics.

Brown could demand a trade from the Celtics to be the primary superstar on his own team. But at the same time, he is eligible to sign a five-year $290 supermax contract this summer.

The 26-year-old is certainly in a complicated situation right now. As for his decision, Brown is yet to give it a thought.

“I expected to win today and move on. That’s what my focus was on. That’s what my focus has been on. We failed. I failed. And it’s hard to think about anything else right now, to be honest. I’m going to cross that bridge when we get there.”

All things considered, the Celtics fans will keep a close watch on Brown this offseason. After all, if the organization decides to trade him, they can get an elite talent in return.
