Stephen A. Smith is known for his hot takes and predictions, and while most of them are usually on point, one of those though backfired spectacularly, and fans, for good measure, trolled the analyst.

In October, Smith made three predictions about the Nets on First Take. “I’ve got the Brooklyn Nets going to the Finals,” he said for his first. The second was Kyrie Irving becoming a leading MVP candidate. “And Ben Simmons will return to All-Star status.”

A lot has changed since. Fast forward to March:

1. The Nets don’t have Kevin Durant or Kyrie Irving. Their new-look squad has played some excellent ball to stay sixth in the East. They will have a shot to make the playoffs, but their final run is debatable.

2. Kyrie Irving is averaging 26.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.5 assists — good enough numbers that are usually expected of him, but he’s not been a part of the league’s Top 5 players primed to win the award.

3. Ben Simmons is shut down for the season.

Here are some prize reactions from fans.

One of the fans called out Smith.

Another one trolled him for his 0-for-3 take.

Poor Simmons was in focus again.

A fan focused on the three strikes.

Technically, Smith can’t be faulted, given he had no idea what was blowing ahead of the trade deadline. And while it does subject him to trolls and roasts, it doesn’t change the fact that he is still one of the best in the business at what he does.

The Cleveland Cavaliers Are Reportedly Looking To Play The Brooklyn Nets In The Playoffs

Earlier this month, NBA insider Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com reported that the Cavaliers were looking to square off against the Nets in the postseason.

“Multiple people I’ve spoken to recently are privately hoping for a Brooklyn matchup. It’s easy to understand why. Even though the Cavs, with home-court advantage, would likely be capable of competing — and possibly winning — a seven-game series against any of the teams currently behind them in the standings, the Nets would be Cleveland’s easiest path out of round one.”

At the time of writing, the Cavaliers are fourth, and the Nets are sixth. It should be noted that the latter cannot be taken lightly. Mikal Bridges has been on a tear, and their defense has been troublesome for some of the sides.

Wonder if the quips and the trolls against Smith stop if the Nets indeed have things going their way and they make the NBA Finals?
