This past weekend, the WNBA’s All-Star weekend went viral all across social media. Among the many great moments from the event, Sabrina Ionescu became the center of attention for her amazing performance in the 3-point contest.

She made history by scoring a whopping 37 points, and even Stephen Curry couldn’t help but notice. In the immediate aftermath of the moment, Curry only had one word to describe his feeling (ridiculous), but he later followed it up by challenging Ionecu to a 3-point contest to determine the best shooter once and for all.

“I gotta go after Sabrina [Ionescu’s] record… She went crazy with the 37 points in their All-Star weekend. We got to settle that one for sure. Who’s the better 3-point competition shooter.”

Of course, Steph is a two-time 3-point contest winner himself, but he has never come close to beating Ionescu’s impossible 37-point record. To date, the closest Steph has ever gotten to that mark is during the 2017 All-Star weekend in Atlanta, when he dropped 31 points in the first round.

At this point, Curry really has nothing left to prove as a shooter, player, or leader for the Warriors and it’s probably why he has shied away from signing up for the contest every year. But, who knows, maybe Ionescu’s performance will inspire him to give it one more try.

Is Steph The Greatest Shooter Of All-Time?

Putting aside his track record in the three-point contest, there really is no argument against Curry as the greatest sniper in NBA history. At this point, his skills are so renowned that the act of shooting itself has become associated with his game and people from all over the world (from pros to amateurs) look to Steph as their model for success.

“Those are the two greatest shooters of all time, in my opinion, personally,” Poole said on his former teammates Steph and Klay. “And it’s just things that you learn in practice, in the game, on the road that you wouldn’t be able to learn not being in the mix, and I’m thankful for that, grateful for that.”

The whole world is waiting to see what Curry has for us next season, and we know by now that it’ll be something good. The question is, was Curry serious about going after Ionescu’s record? Because, if so, it will make NBA All-Star weekend next year so much more exciting.
