Guard Austin Reaves was amazing for the Los Angeles Lakers in the playoffs this year, showing ballhandling ability, 3PT shooting, and playmaking. He was a quality third option behind LeBron James and Anthony Davis and a key part of the team’s Western Conference Finals run.

This summer, Austin Reaves is a restricted free agent, and there’s no doubt that a lot of teams would love to lure him away. The key would obviously be to sign him to a deal that the Lakers are not willing to match. However, it is unlikely that he’ll leave the Los Angeles Lakers, as the team is prepared to match any contract that he gets, even if it is almost $100 million, per NBA insider Marc Stein.

“The Lakers, league sources say, are a lock to match any offer on Reaves — even if someone signs Reaves to the maximum allowable offer sheet worth nearly $100 million over four years.”

There is no doubt that Austin Reaves is integral to the Los Angeles Lakers. His ability to create from the perimeter but also play off the ball is key next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis, and he could potentially improve even further.

Austin Reaves averaged 16.9 PPG, 4.4 RPG, and 4.6 APG for the team during the playoffs, and it is clear that he is an elite complementary player. It’ll be interesting to see what sort of contract he gets in free agency, and he could end up getting some big-time money.

Austin Reaves Has Interest From The Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets have nearly $61 million in cap space this summer, and it is quite possible that they could get some elite free agents. In fact, it was revealed they have an interest in both Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura.

“Equipped with so much spending power, the most in the NBA, and a coach, Ime Udoka, that is popular among NBA players, the Rockets have not prioritized specific targets as much as a pool of players to pursue. According to a person with knowledge of their thinking, they have interest in the Lakers’ Rui Hachimura and Austin Reaves.

It remains to be seen if either player ends up leaving the Los Angeles Lakers. Previous reports suggested that keeping Hachimura and Reaves is the top priority for the team, but things can definitely change quickly in the league.
