The Warriors Are The Biggest Winners In The Western Conference: “They Get The 6th Seed, Will Get The Inexperienced Sacramento Kings Starting This Weekend.”

Brian Windhorst says the Warriors were the biggest winners from the final day of the regular season as they avoided the Suns and the play-in to face the Kings.

The Golden State Warriors wrapped up their regular season with a crucial win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday.

That victory, combined with results elsewhere, meant the Warriors finished as the sixth seed, and NBA insider Brian Windhorst believes they were the biggest winners from the final day of the regular season.

“They get the sixth seed, will get the inexperienced Sacramento Kings starting this weekend,” Windhorst said on Get Up. “Don’t have to travel, they can take a bus to those games. At the start of the week, we saw the Clippers, Lakers, and Warriors all unsure where they were going to go. One team was going to get the Suns in the first round, not ideal. One team was going to have to go into the play-in, not ideal. One team was going to get the sixth seed, get the Kings who are formidable but inexperienced and weaker defensively. That was the sweet spot (and) the Warriors hit it”.

(starts at 4:31 mark):

Sixth is exactly where teams like the Lakers, Clippers, and Pelicans would have liked to finish, but it is the Warriors who ended up there. As Windhorst said, ideally, you would want to avoid the play-in tournament and wouldn’t want to face the Phoenix Suns either, so sixth was the spot to be in.

The Sacramento Kings have had a terrific season, but they have been viewed by many as the easiest opponent among the top four seeds. The issue with the Kings is not just the fact that they lack experience, but they aren’t a great defensive team either, and that is a cause for concern in the playoffs. They have proven their doubters wrong all season, though, so it would be foolish to write them off, but they definitely are the underdogs here.

Stephen Curry Praised The Sacramento Kings

The Warriors have also wanted to face the Kings, with Draymond Green saying they’d prefer the short travel to Sacramento in a playoff series. Klay Thompson agreed with him as well, so the Warriors have clearly gotten the matchup they wanted.

They won’t be taking the Kings lightly, however, and Stephen Curry had a lot of praise for them after the win over the Blazers. Curry stated that they are a great team that has had an amazing season and added that it is going to take everything they have to win the series.
