Tim Hardaway Sr. is a former 5-time All-Star in the NBA, the man knows his basketball. But he has now dropped what will be one of the more controversial takes of the month.

Victor Wembanyama has been the subject of massive hype long before he was even drafted No. 1 overall by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2023 NBA Draft. But Hardaway Sr. thinks that despite all this hype, new Phoenix Suns free agent signing Bol Bol is better than the French phenom.

“I think he’s better than Victor Wamb… whatever his name is,” Hardaway Sr. said on The Carton Show. “Bol Bol has better physical talent and is ready to play in the NBA right now than Victor is…”

This is one of the wildest claims any former player has made in recent times. Admittedly, it’s hard to say what Victor Wembanyama will be like in the NBA till we see him play in the league, but we do know what Bol Bol is. In his best year, which was last season with the Orlando Magic, Bol averaged 9.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game in 21.5 minutes of playing time.

To put this into perspective, if those are Wembanyama’s stats in his first year, not even the fourth like it was for Bol, then he will be considered a massive bust. Bol Bol was just signed by the Phoenix Suns as they continue to build their roster out around their Big 3. But if he’s better than Victor Wembanyama even in the latter’s rookie season, then it’s going to be a terrible look for Wemby.

Patrick Beverley Is Among Those Backing Bol Bol To Have A Big Season

Having signed a one-year deal with the Phoenix Suns, Bol Bol is hardly expected to be a game-changer. But fans are hyped about the prospect nonetheless, and even Patrick Beverley is backing him to have a huge season. Speaking about the 23-year-old, Beverley simply said, “Don’t be surprised if Bol Bol have a breakout year.”

Victor Wembanyama will be expected to average over 15.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game, at the very least, if he wants to avoid criticism in his rookie season. Whether he gets it or not remains to be seen, but even if he doesn’t, this take from Hardaway Sr. about Bol Bol being better is likely to age like milk.
