  • Haliburton stated Hield would have called him and hilariously revealed what he’d have said if he got traded
  • Hield and the Pacers are working toward a trade

It turns out Tyrese Haliburton can do a great Buddy Hield impression. During one of Haliburton’s NBA 2K live streams, a fan told him that Hield had been traded. The 23-year-old didn’t fall for it, and then hilariously revealed how his teammate would have told him about the trade.

“If you think a trade’s happening and I’m not aware, you’re a clown,” Haliburton said. “Just kidding that happens all the time, but I would know, trust me. He would’ve called me by now crying, not crying. He would call me, ‘I can’t believe they traded me to the Magic.’ Let me chill out.”

That was a great impression. I don’t think Hield would be too upset about being traded to the Orlando Magic, though, as they do seem like a team on the rise now.

Haliburton would probably be one of the first to know about any Hield trade, as they have been teammates for the star guard’s entire career. Hield was actually a member of the Sacramento Kings when they drafted Haliburton with the 12th pick in 2020.

They were both then traded to the Indiana Pacers as part of the package to acquire Domantas Sabonis in 2022. Hield and Haliburton seem to have grown quite close after all this time, and the latter would be disappointed that the former is on his way out.

The Pacers And Hield Are Working Toward A Trade

Hield has been a solid player for the Pacers, but his time with the franchise seems set to come to an end fairly soon. NBA insider Shams Charania reported that Hield and the Pacers are working toward a trade after extension talks stalled.

The 30-year-old is set to enter the final year of the four-year, $94 million deal he signed back in 2019. The Pacers did offer him an extension, but Hield wants a better deal, as per Charania. While no serious talks seem to have taken place yet, there would be a fair few teams interested in Hield.

He averaged 16.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game while shooting 42.5% from beyond the arc last season. Teams nowadays can’t have enough shooters, and he should find a new home not too far into the future.

Tyrese Haliburton Ascended To Stardom In 2022-23

Haliburton being traded by the Kings, was a shock to many, as it was clear he had the potential to be special. Sabonis’ success in Sacramento has led to the trade now being regarded as a win-win for both parties, but I’d say Indiana has come out a little bit better off.

Immediately on arrival, Haliburton showed signs that he could be great for the Pacers, and in 2022-23, he ascended to stardom. The 23-year-old averaged 20.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 10.4 assists, 1.6 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game, to be named an All-Star for the first time.

The team still failed to make the playoffs, though, finishing with a 35-47 record. It was a disappointing end to a campaign that promised a lot.

The expectation would be that they will make it in this time, and their star point guard is the one all eyes will be on. The Pacers gave Haliburton a five-year max extension worth up to $260 million this offseason and with that, comes a lot of expectations. I believe he will shine, but Haliburton also has to elevate his team to another level.
