The NBA saw a series of firings in the past couple of months after several teams failed to compete for a championship, and others fell short in the 2023 NBA Playoffs.

Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue had something to say about this, calling out the double standard teams have for coaches and players. During a recent appearance on Uninterrupted’s The Shop, the 2016 NBA champion head coach said:

“A coach makes 1 mistake or 2 mistakes, he gets fired? But a player can have 7 turnovers, 4-for-15… You keep firing good coaches, keep blaming the coaches. Everybody’s gonna make mistakes.”

Lue has valid concerns here, as many coaches lost their job after simply failing to meet expectations for one season. This became a big deal around the league, with Larry Brown blasting teams for making these types of decisions instead of holding players accountable.

Lue jumps on this train now, calling out teams and players for not having the same standard for everybody and for not putting in the effort to keep the season alive or secure a higher spot on the leaderboard.

Three Former NBA Champions Were Fired In The Last Year

In the last year, several NBA champion coaches were fired. The 2020 NBA champion head coach Frank Vogel was fired by the Los Angeles Lakers. Then, the 2019 NBA champion head coach Nick Nurse was dismissed by the Toronto Raptors.

Following a disappointing First-Round exit in the playoffs, 2021 NBA champion head coach Mike Budenholzer lost his job. Besides them, Doc Rivers and Monty Williams were also fired, raising a lot of eyebrows around the league.

Lue himself was linked with a move away from the Los Angeles Clippers as a potential replacement for some of these coaches. However, he’s staying put in Los Angeles. Stephen A. Smith recently mentioned him as the best candidate to take over the New York Knicks, so you know this man is highly valued in the league.

The last couple of months have been totally crazy in the NBA, but the situation has calmed now.
