It was inevitable that some heads were going to roll after the Phoenix Suns were blown out at home for the second season in a row in an elimination game.

Head coach Monty Williams was fired on Saturday, and the team is now exploring the possibility of luring Tyronn Lue from the Los Angeles Clippers.

“The Suns, league sources say, are expected to explore the feasibility of trying to lure Tyronn Lue away from the Clippers after tonight’s abrupt dismissal of Monty Williams as coach.”

Williams had taken the Suns to the NBA Finals in 2021 and led the team to a franchise-record 64 wins in the 2021-22 season, but back-to-back humiliating exits sealed his fate. It is hardly a surprise that the Suns would be interested in Lue, as he is one of the best coaches in the league today.

Stephen A. Smith called him the best coach, and the Suns probably witnessed that first-hand, as Lue’s Clippers, without Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, gave them a run for their money in the first round. He has been unfortunate in the sense that he has never had both of his stars healthy in the playoffs, or else they could have potentially made a Finals run by now. Even with all the injury issues, Lue has led the Clippers to a respectable 133-103 record in his three seasons.

It Is Going To Be Very Difficult For Phoenix To Land Tyronn Lue

It is highly unlikely the Suns land Lue as the Clippers would have no intention of parting ways with him. Team President Lawrence Frank stated Lue will be back with the team next season and called him a terrific coach. The Clippers have title aspirations of their own, so letting him go to the Suns would make absolutely no sense.

Getting any kind of draft compensation from Phoenix for Lue isn’t really going to be of much help for them either, so it looks bleak, to say the least. On the odd chance the Clippers do decide to let him go, Lue is a man in demand, with the Milwaukee Bucks also rumored to be interested in hiring him
