The 2023-24 NBA season could be a very interesting one for the Milwaukee Bucks. After losing to the Miami Heat in the first round of the 2023 playoffs, the team decided to part ways with Mike Budenholzer and now are looking for a new helmsman that can take them back to the top of the league.

A lot has been said about the Bucks’ search for a new head coach and in recent hours, two big candidates emerged, as the team is looking for some heavyweights to replace Budenholzer on the sidelines.

“The 2023-24 campaign will mark the final season of the original five-year contract Williams signed in 2019, before a pricey contract extension he inked last summer kicks in for 2024-25 and beyond. That sense of security, though, has not prevented Williams’ name from gaining steam among league personnel — including several figures present at Game 6 — when discussing potential candidates for the Bucks’ head coaching vacancy, sources said. Milwaukee is expected to pursue various experienced coaches who are currently employed by rival franchises. Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue is another opposing play-caller on the Bucks’ radar, league sources said.”

Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports adds that the Bucks are looking for other options, including associate head coach Kevin Young, who was a candidate to take over the Utah Jazz last season and is now followed by the Toronto Raptors, too.

Lue and Williams are very good at what they do, as they’ve been in the league for a while. Lue was an NBA champion in 2016 with the Cleveland Cavaliers and has done an incredible job with the Los Angeles Clippers. Even though Lawrence Frank claimed Lue is coming back to the team, that doesn’t stop the Bucks from having him on their list.

As for Williams, he’s been one of the best coaches in the league for the past three years or so. He won two Coach of the Year awards with the Suns and made it to the 2021 NBA Finals, where the Bucks stopped him from winning the championship.

Monty Williams Could Leave Suns After Another Disappointing Playoff Exit

The Suns could be looking to make a major roster shake-up this offseason after another early playoffs exit. Tim MacMahon of ESPN reports that both GM James Jones and Monty Williams could be shown the exit door this offseason to kickstart a new era in Phoenix.

Of course, none of this has happened yet, and it could be only rumors in the heat of the moment. Still, it seems like, after another failed run, the Suns could be ready to move on and find new staffers to face the 2023-24 NBA season.
