Tyronn Lue has been praised across the NBA as one of the league’s best coaches in the last few seasons. His time with the Los Angeles Clippers has generally been looked at in a favorable light, even though they haven’t even been to the NBA Finals.

After their loss to the Phoenix Suns, the conversation was about how Kawhi Leonard and Paul George’s injuries were the main reason for the loss. Even Ty Lue said something along those lines. But there was also speculation that Lue might leave because of trouble behind the scenes. That speculation can end now.

Los Angeles Clippers President Lawrence Frank was asked about Lue’s situation, and he gave a blunt answer, saying, “Yeah, why wouldn’t he back? Of course he’s back. Ty is a terrific coach and we’re excited to have him as our coach.”

Since they acquired Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, the Clippers have perennially fallen short of expectations. This has been in large part thanks to their injuries, both Leonard and George have been injured at crucial points during each season. However,  Ty Lue has also been accused of engaging in some detrimental behavior behind the scenes.

There Were Signs That Tyronn Lue Might Not Return

The Los Angeles Clippers weren’t without issues on the roster this season, with Marcus Morris among the players that many thought shouldn’t have played as much as he did. And former Clippers player Patrick Patterson accused Tyronn Lue of playing favorites with players

And it wasn’t the only sign that things might not be peachy behind the scenes. Lue’s own words following the series loss against the Phoenix Suns made it sound like he could be gone.

“First of all, I just want to thank our fans,” Lue said. “They have been unbelievable this year. Sticking behind us during the inconsistencies of lineups and different things. They stuck behind us 100%, and so I just want to thank the fans. They were great, all year long, my whole tenure here. The last three years have been great.

“I want to thank my coaching staff, second of all. [They] put in work every single day and helped me in every way, shape, and form I need they are always there for me. I couldn’t do this by myself. Then I just want to thank the players… I want to thank the organization,” Lue added. “Thank those guys for the opportunity and just putting me in this position and all the support they’ve given me in the last three years.”

His words could be construed as a farewell because he doesn’t expect to be back, but now it seems that is not true. Tyronn Lue has a 130-103 record with the Clippers despite the injuries and load management. He is great at what he does, and he is set to return for another go at the championship next season.
