Vanessa Bryant has been criticized by influencer ‘Dr. Umar’ for inheriting Kobe Bryant‘s wealth and not using it to uplift the Black community that Kobe was from, using an example of Vanessa not working with HBCUs as proof for his argument.

“Kobe Bryant died, Vanessa inherited his wealth. Is Vanessa Bryant using any of that Black man’s money to do any good in the Black community? Absolutely f***ing not. She just started an initiative with three predominantly white colleges, using Kobe’s name and money, and didn’t use an HBCU. Expecting a White woman to use black money to help Black people, how is that unfair?”

Kobe Bryant’s death almost four years ago caused a lot of emotional damage to the basketball community, with fans all over the world mourning his loss. It caused the most pain to his family. His widow Vanessa Bryant lost her husband and daughter and has worked tirelessly to raise her surviving daughters while honoring the legacies of both Kobe and Gigi.

Vanessa has been one of the biggest philanthropists in recent years, actively using Kobe’s name and money to spread the joy of basketball. The ‘Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation‘ has built courts, educated children, and been an incredibly positive force in the community, helping kids regardless of their race.

The college program Dr. Umar criticized was a collaboration between the Foundation and NCAA D1 schools such as the University of Connecticut, the University of Southern California, the University of Oregon, Duke University, Louisiana State University, and the University of Kentucky.

Fans Tore Into Dr. Umar For His Comments

Fans did not appreciate seeing this internet influencer talk the way he did about Vanessa. People love to mythologize Kobe’s influence on basketball players and regular people around the world, but it’s important to know that his passing affected Vanessa and the family the most. She woke up one morning having lost both her husband and her daughter, the trauma of which would ruin the lives of many.

People stood up for Vanessa in a heartwarming display showing how true fans will continue defending her and the Bryant family, instead of using Kobe’s name and success as a weapon to attack her.

Fans reminded others of everything Vanessa has done to actively build Kobe’s legacy, by keeping up appearances at basketball games to bring attention to them while using his money for philanthropy and growing his legacy.

One fan shared pictures of courts built by the Mamba and Mambacita Foundation in a predominantly Black community in Philadelphia.

Fans were quick to point out that the man making the allegations has a troubling history of asking for money to build a school for African-American children that he never delivered on.

Fans further pointed out that the lawsuit Vanessa pursued against the LA County Sherrif’s Office was not motivated by her lining her own pockets but to protect Kobe and the families that were affected by the crash. The money was given to the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation.

Fans pointed out how Vanessa stood by Kobe’s side even with personal scandals threatening their relationship.
