Victor Wembanyama’s Summer League debut vs. the Charlotte Hornets was far from impressive. But the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft had an excellent bounce-back game vs. the Portland Trail Blazers.
Wembanyama finished the night with 27 points, 12 rebounds, 1 steal, and 3 blocks while shooting 9-14 from the field and 2-4 from downtown. The Spurs star was reportedly invited to Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin’s Summer Players party at Tao nightclub. However, the French phenom skipped the party to get some rest before playing vs. the Trail Blazers.
“Victor Wembanyama, 19, skipped the Summer Players Party at Tao nightclub hosted by Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin and the NBA’s Players Association,” senior NBA writer Michael C. Wright tweeted. “He declined the invitation to get his rest ahead of today’s game. Learning that Victor doesn’t play about his sleep.”

Wembanyama’s decision paid off as he had a monster second game in the NBA Summer League. Despite the 19-year-old’s excellent game, the Spurs were handed an 80-85 loss by a Scoot Henderson-less Trail Blazers.
Michael Rubin was recently in the headlines for throwing a star-studded Fourth of July “white party.” The party featured the likes of Kevin Durant, James Harden, Devin Booker, and other stars. Unfortunately, the Fanatics CEO’s Summer Players party wasn’t enticing enough for Wembanyama.
Victor Wembanyama Is Tired Of The NBA Media
Victor Wembanyama is expected to become the face of the NBA in a few years. Evidently, the French star attracts a lot of attention from the media.
The Spurs star’s popularity is only increasing following his debut in the Summer League. Wembanyama is already tired of all the attention he’s getting and wants to disappear from the media for the next few months.
“As I’m not playing in the World Cup, I got two or three great months that are coming and they’re gonna change my life. I’m probably gonna disappear from the media for the next [few] months, honestly.”
The 2023-24 NBA season is scheduled to begin in October 2023. So, Wembanyama can indeed get a few months’ rest and play his first game in the league at full energy.
