The 2023 Las Vegas Summer League has easily been one of the most hyped iterations of the showcase, primarily due to the incredible talent from the 2023 Draft Class finally hooping on an NBA court.

Victor Wembanyama has been the star attraction for the entire week. He had a dismal debut that highlighted his flaws to the world. But in his second outing against the Portland Trail Blazers, Wembanyama showed off his incredible skill set.

A fan shared a highlight reel of Wemby’s best moves from the night.

One fan cited his confidence as a big difference-maker.

A lot of fans brought up his recent issues with Britney Spears and her rabid fanbase.

Given the hate Wembanyama got after his poor debut, fans are asking why those haters aren’t criticizing him now.

Fans think Wemby really may be the generational prospect they’ve been told he is.

Some fans remain unimpressed, wanting Wemby to have these performances against the best centers in the NBA.

The Spurs lost the game despite Wemby’s great performance, so fans criticized Malaki Branham for chucking shots instead of feeding Wemby the ball. Branham went 1-17 on shots.

Wemby’s 27 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks couldn’t lead the Spurs to a win, as they fell 80-85. Branham’s horrendous shotmaking was to blame for the loss, but at least Wembanyama looks like he can be a contributor in the NBA instantly.

Victor Wembanyama Is Going To Be A Difference Maker

Even though his offensive struggles made the headlines from his debut against the Hornets, Wemby has proven one thing in his two games played so far. He is the best defensive prospect the league has seen since Dwight Howard, possibly even Tim Duncan. Even if he struggles to score against NBA-level centers, he will be blocking everyone’s shots.

His defensive range is genuinely special. He can move his feet on the perimeter and uses his eight-foot wingspan to swallow up passing or driving lanes. In the paint, even if he gets beaten on a shot attempt, he can easily recover and block it away. He has 8 blocks in his two Summer League outings.

Wembanyama could legitimately make the All-Defense team as a rookie. His offense was on full display against the Blazers, so fans should be worried about what he can do to the league if he fully develops his game.
