DeMarcus Cousins is yet to find a new shot in the NBA, but while he waits for a call from the association, the center is making the most out of his opportunities in Puerto Rico.

Cousins signed with the Guaynabo Mets last month, putting a pause on his quest to come back to the NBA. He became the 13th former NBA player to sign with a Puerto Rican team, and this decision is paying off for him, as he’s putting up big performances night in and night out.

In his most recent game, Cousins finished with 31 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. He looked very comfortable with the ball in his hands, attacking the rim, making spin moves, putting the ball on the floor, and even taking 3-pointers.

After playing 12 games, Cousins is averaging 21.0 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists, playing 25.9 minutes per game and shooting 60.2% from the field, 42.6% from deep, and 69.7% from the free-throw line, per Latin Basket

The big man is playing at a great level, and this isn’t the only good performance he’s recorded in the National Superior Basketball (BSN).

After his career started in a big way with the Sacramento Kings, looking like the best option on the team, he was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. Cousins’ body started bothering him during that time when he created a terrific frontcourt with Anthony Davis.

After his tenures with the Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, and Los Angeles Clippers, among others, Cousins is out of the league.

DeMarcus Cousins Is Working To Get A New Chance In The NBA

Many years later, his career turned out to be nothing like many expected, and Cousins is playing in Puerto Rico now, hoping to get a new opportunity in the NBA. He was on the Los Angeles Lakers radar ahead of the 2023 NBA Playoffs.

The Purple and Gold picked Tristan Thompson over him, opening the door for Cousins to join the BSN. Curiously, if he stayed one more season with the Denver Nuggets, he would be in the NBA Finals now.

Cousins has had one of those careers that were full of injuries and prevented the player from fulfilling their level. Even with his temper, Cousins was considered one of the best players in his position during his best years, and he was an automatic double-double.

He’s not that same player anymore, but it’s clear that he can help more than one team in the league with his experience.
