The Lakers have a chance to secure their spot in the Western Conference Semi-Finals tonight. With a win over the Grizzlies, they can move on to the next round and start preparing for a brutal series against the winner of Kings vs. Warriors.

Ahead of Wednesday’s crucial Game 5, every Laker is expected to be at their best, including young guard Austin Reaves. He’s been on fire in the series, and the Lakers will need more of his magic again today if they want the best chance at closing out the Grizzlies. So when Lakers fans saw him drain 18 straight three-pointers in a pre-game shootaround, they all breathed a sigh of relief.

Reaves went undrafted before being given a chance to shine with the Lakers, and his miraculous ascension is tied to the Lakers’ turnaround this season. After struggling all year to win games, they finally started playing right around the trade deadline, and Reaves took on a bigger role as a starter and closer toward the end of the season.

Now, he’s making big shots in playoff games, and Lakers fans are happy to see one of their own thrive alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Austin Reaves Was Getting MVP Chants From The Fans In Game 4

Austin’s best game yet may have come in Monday’s win over Memphis, when he dropped 23 points and 6 assists to help give his team a two-game lead over the second seed in the West.

“I mean… it’s love,” Reaves said. “I’ve said many times. Clearly, I’m not in the MVP race, but the way that they support me either way, they love the way that I play. I’mma give it everything I got every single night. These fans expect this. They expect us to be in the playoffs and go all the way… If you told me that two years ago, I would have told you, ‘You’re crazy.'”

It has been an incredible story for Reaves and the Lakers, and it’s hard to see it ending anytime soon. No matter how this season goes or how Reaves plays to finish it out, he’s earned his place on this team, and fans would surely riot if they didn’t find a way to retain his services for at least another year.
